Upgrade / Re-install of AADS Terminal Server

The AADS Terminal Server Setup program always behaves as if it is doing an upgrade. This implies that it will respect the settings that are already done.

An upgrade from the Demo version to a Full version is therefore quite simple:

and that's it.

The Upgrade behavior does apply to:

and it applies to:

It is possible to downgrade AADS Terminal Server, although we would not know why you would want to do that. If you downgrade from Full version to Demo version, the result will be that your Server is again limited to 3 users.

If you do not want the Setup program to do an upgrade of your current AADS Terminal Server, you must first uninstall the current AADS Terminal Server software, and after the uninstall, run the AADS Terminal Server Setup program.
After uninstalling AADS, all AADS Settings are lost and you will need to configure everything on your AADS Terminal Server.

Fixing problems by re-installing AADS Terminal Server

Sometimes you can fix problems with a re-install of AADS Terminal Server. It does unfortunately happen that, for example, Windows Update or some kind of anti-virus software update, does revert settings that are relevant for AADS Terminal Server. Usually Windows is a single user, single desktop, single login operating system, offering only 1 Remote Desktop Session, and those updates might not expect or understand the multi-user, multi-desktop, multi-login, multiple concurrent Remote Desktop Sessions as made available by AADS Terminal Server.

When there is an issue,

Do not disable Firewalls

It is required to configure both the AADS built-in RDP Firewall and the Windows Firewall.

Don't be tempted to disable the Window Firewall or the AADS built-in RDP Firewall because you think "disabling firewalls might solve the unknown problems".
Too often we receive ZIP Support Files with loglines indicating many hack-attempts because of a disabled AADS RDP Firewall or no Firewall at all.
Disabling Firewalls will only result in more problems.
